Turning away from Trump

Look at almost any piece of data regarding President Donald Trump’s chances at being elected to a second term, and its likely to be more negative than it was a few months ago, before the coronavirus pandemic began. Trump had built his reelection message around the vibrant economy and his prospects have taken a hit since it cratered.

Overall, Americans are increasingly more pessimistic about the state of the country, more disapproving of Trump’s performance in office and more likely to vote for his Democratic opponent, Joe Biden.

All Registered Voters

With a majority of Americans continuing to believe the country is headed in the wrong direction, disapproval of Trump is spiking. Biden’s lead over Trump is the highest it has been since Democrats began their nominating process earlier this year.

While Republican support for Trump is largely steady, more are finding fault with how he’s doing his job. If Biden can end up earning more than 10% of their votes, the president could be in real trouble.

Suburban

Much of the 2020 election will be fought in the nation’s suburbs, which are filled with independent and swing voters. With Biden currently holding a 12-point lead in these areas, Trump’s campaign has to hope a rebounding economy will boost him.
