The Netherlands just couldn’t get forward to test their opponents after the sending off and the Czech Republic just kept pushing and eventually got their reward. They will face Denmark in the quarter-finals on Saturday, after they beat Wales yesterday.
The Czech Republic progress to the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 after an impressive 2-0 victory over the Netherlands. It was goalless at the break, but the game changed when De Ligt was sent off on 55 minutes, after he handled the ball on the edge of the box and denied Schick a goalscoring opportunity. The referee initially only showed a yellow card, but VAR intervened, and the centre-back was shown a straight red. The Czech Republic then pushed forward in numbers and got their reward 13 minutes later, when Holes fired them ahead following a set piece. Schick then scored his fourth of the tournament to double their lead and clinch the win.
FULL-TIME: NETHERLANDS 0-2 CZECH REPUBLIC
There are a lot of disappointed Netherlands supporters inside the stadium, they impressed in the group games, but couldn't replicate their form in the knockout stages.
Despite their 2-0 advantage, the Czech Republic are still pushing forward in search of a third goal, with the Netherlands leaving huge gaps in their defence.
Barak also heads off the pitch and he is replaced by Sadilek.
Another double change by the Czech Republic, with Schick the first to come off and he has been replaced by Krmencik.
There will be a minimum of six minutes added time played at the end of the second half.
There isn't much time for the Netherlands to try and get back into the game now, with their opponents starting to run down the clock.
The other change sees Holes come off the pitch and he has been replaced by Kral.
Double substitution for the Czech Republic now, with Sevcik heading off and he has been replaced by Hlozek.
De Jong is booked for dissent, after arguing a decision with the referee.
The Netherlands are trying to break forward on the counter-attack when they can, as they are struggling to keep the ball in midfield.
The other change sees Blind replaced by Timber.
The Netherlands have made a double change following the goal, with Van Aanholt one of those coming off and he has been replaced by Berghuis.
A goal and now an assist for Holes, what a game he is having! He appears to take a heavy touch as he races into the box, but he does brilliantly to regain control and pick out Schick, who coolly converts.
GOAL! Schick scores his fourth goal of the tournament and makes it 2-0! Surely that is the win wrapped up now for the Czech Republic! Holes nicks the ball off the toes of Wijnaldum deep inside the Netherlands half of the pitch and then races into the penalty area, before squaring it across goal to Schick, who gets ahead of his marker and fires it past Stekelenburg, into the bottom left corner of the net.
Masopust heads off for the Czech Republic, with Jankto his replacement.
Good effort! Soucek is given far too much time and space on the edge of the penalty area, so he unleashes a powerful effort towards goal. However, it doesn't have enough pace on it to beat Stekelenburg, who makes a good save.
The Netherlands have only only won one of their previous six matches under Frank de Boer when conceding first (D3 L2), a 2-1 win at Poland last November.
Stoppage in play here as Sevcik is down following an aerial challenge and it looks like he has taken a knock to the head. Kalas also seems to have a problem for the Czech Republic.
The Netherlands make their second change of the game, with De Roon replaced by Weghorst.
Another drinks break and it's needed after a frantic second half, which has seen a goal and a red card. Will we see some more changes soon?
The Netherlands need to push forward in search of an equaliser now, they have sat back since the sending off and they've got their work cut out to get back into the game with 10-men.
Kalas knew he couldn't go for goal himself as the angle was too tight, so he powered it back across goal for his team-mate, who made no mistakes with the finish.
GOAL! The Czech Republic take the lead, it’s 1-0! The goal has been coming and it’s well deserved. It comes from a deep corner, which is met at the back post by Kalas who does brilliantly to head it back across goal towards Holes, who powers it into the back of the net from close range. There are a couple of defenders on the line, but they just can’t stop it from flying in.
The atmosphere is electric inside the stadium now, with the Czech fans behind the goal their team are attacking and they are urging their team forward to try and break the deadlock.
It's all hands on deck for the Netherlands at the moment, they are sitting deep and soaking up a lot of pressure, with the Czech Republic pushing forward at every opportunity.
CHANCE! Dumfries with a huge block to deny Kaderabek! A deep cross comes in from the right wing and flies all the way to the far post, with Kaderabek firing a low effort towards goal. However, Dumfries does brilliantly to read the danger and make an excellent block.
De Ligt is the youngest player to be sent off in a EUROs knockout match (21y 319d), overtaking Gianluca Zambrotta for Italy at EURO 2000 against the Netherlands in the semi-final (23y 131d).
PENALTY CHECK! The Czech Republic whip a corner into the penalty area from the right, which the Netherlands clear, but there are a few appeals for a handball by Dumfries. However, VAR take a look and nothing is given.
The game is very heated now, with a few challlenges flying in and the pace has certainly increased. The Czech Republic have the advantage with the extra man.
The Netherlands have made a substitution following the red card, with Malen the man coming off and he has been replaced by Promes.
Coufal is the first Czech Republic player to be booked after he fouls Dumfries.
RED CARD! The original yellow card has been overturned and De Ligt has been sent off! The referee went over to the VAR monitor and reviewed the footage and saw that De Ligt denied Schick a clear opportunity at goal, so was therefore the last man. The Netherlands are down to 10-men.
VAR REVIEW! The officials have taken a long look at the challenge by De Ligt on Schick and the referee is being told to go and review the video footage. It looks like De Ligt is the last man and therefore denied Schick a goalscoring opportunity.
ALMOST! De Ligt slips as he tries to fend off Schick on the edge of the penalty area and the striker almost races through into the box, but the centre-back throws out an arm and deliberately handballs it to stop the forward. Only a free-kick and yellow card is awarded by the referee, but VAR are going to take a look. De Ligt could be in trouble here.
CHANCE! What an opportunity for the Netherlands to take the lead! Malen shows great skill to skip past a couple of Czech defenders and then race through on goal and he only had Vaclik to beat. The striker tries to round the keeper, but Vaclik does brilliantly and makes a superb stop to gather the ball and clear the danger. Huge chance!
Wijnaldum has been kept quiet in midfield so far by the Czech Republic, the Netherlands skipper hasn't been able to influence the game as much as he has in previous matches.
Slow start to the second half, with the Netherlands just keeping possession comfortably in midfield and not really pushing forward in search of the opening goal.
Kaderabek is receiving some medical attention following the aerial challenge with Dumfries, but the left-back is now back up on his feet and should be fine to continue.
The first yellow card of the game is shown to Dumfries for his high arm on Kaderabek as the pair battle for the ball in the air.
The second half is under way!
Both teams have played at a high intensity so far, but the Czech Republic have had the better opportunities and probably should be ahead. The Netherlands need to improve if they are to test their opponents in the final third.
It’s goalless at the break between the Netherlands and the Czech Republic, in a lively game that hasn’t seen too many goalscoring chances. Barak had the best opportunity for the Czech Republic after a quick counter, but De Ligt brilliantly got across to deflect his shot over the crossbar, when it looked like he would fire his country ahead. The Netherlands have seen more of the ball in the first half, but are yet to test Vaclik in goal, with the Czech defence looking pretty comfortable.
HALF-TIME: NETHERLANDS 0-0 CZECH REPUBLIC
Not too far away! Brilliant skill by Depay to get away from his marker in the box and he slides the ball through to Van Aanholt, who drags a shot well wide of the goal. However, it wouldn't have counted anyway as he the wing-back was offside.

Schick has been very lively for Czech Republic today, he's been a huge handful for Blind and De Ligt, as has Soucek when he ventures into the box from deep. He's always a threat in the air.
Since winning the tournament in 1988, the Netherlands have progressed from just two of their seven knockout stage games in the European Championship, beating Yugoslavia 6-1 in the 2000 quarter-final, and winning 5-4 on penalties against Sweden at the same stage in 2004.
There isn’t long left to play before the end of the first half, can either side break the deadlock before the half-time whistle?
CHANCE! Huge opportunity for Czech Republic to take the lead! De Roon misplaces a pass in midfield and their opponents race forward on the counter-attack. Masopust sprints into the box and lays it to Barak, who seems to only have Stekelenburg to beat, but De Ligt does brilliantly to get back and get the slightest of touches on the shot, to send it over the crossbar. Brilliant defending.
Both teams are defending well at the moment, dealing with everything that their opponents can throw at them. The Czech Republic have enjoyed a bit more possession in the last few minutes.
Lovely play by the Czech Republic down the right wing and Coufal is released deep down the flank and he delivers a good low cross into the box aiming for Schick. However, De Ligt reads it well and makes the clearance.
Plenty of pushing and shoving in the box as the Netherlands prepare to whip another corner into the penalty area, but the set piece disappoints and the Czech Republic clear the danger.
We’re at the half an hour mark now and it remains goalless between Netherlands and Czech Republic, with not many chances for either team so far.
Decent effort! Schick manages to work a little bit of space on the edge of the penalty area and he powers an effort towards goal, but Stekelenburg reads it well and makes a good save.
The Czech Republic have been eliminated in three of their last four games in the knockout stages of the European Championships – versus Germany in the final in 1996, Greece in the semi-final in 2004, and most recently, Portugal in the quarter-final of EURO 2012.
We're having a drinks break midway through the first half as it is very warm in Budapest, so both sets of players are getting some extra fluids and also some instructions from the sidelines.
CHANCE! Sevcik whips a brilliant cross into the box from the right wing, after he gets away from his marker and Soucek meets the ball at the near post, getting ahead of De Ligt. The West Ham midfielder tries to glance his header into the far corner of the net, but he doesn't get enough on it and flies well wide.
Wasted opportunity! The Netherlands win a free-kick deep down the right wing and it's a good opportunity for them to get a few players into the box and create something. However, the ball in from Depay is poor and it comes out to De Jong on the edge of the penalty area, before it's eventually cleared by the Czech Republic.
The winners of this game will face Denmark in the quarter-finals, after they beat Wales 4-0 in Amsterdam yesterday.
The Netherlands are doing well in possession, but they just seem to be short of ideas in the final third at the moment, with their opponents looking strong in defence.
Depay does really well to hold up the ball on the halfway line, under heavy pressure from Celustka, who barges into the back of him and gives away a clear free-kick.
ALMOST! Dumfries makes a terrific diagonal run across the the Czech Republic defence and gets in behind, racing onto the end of a long ball and he tries to beat Vaclik to it on the edge of the box, who raced out of his goal. However, Kalas keeps up with him and does well with the initial header, before blocking the shot from Dumfries. Excellent defending.
This will be the first meeting between the Netherlands and Czech Republic since October 2015, when the Dutch were beaten 3-2 in a EURO 2016 qualifier. Indeed, they have lost each of their last two games against the Czech Republic – both coming in qualifying for the previous European Championships in 2016.
This is better from the Netherlands, they are starting to get the ball down and control possession in midfield, with De Jong looking strong in the middle of the pitch.
Not too far away! The Netherlands take a corner short to create a better angle for the cross into the penalty area and it eventually comes into the box from Malen and is met by De Ligt at the far post. However, the angle is very tight and the centre-back can't turn his header on target.
The Netherlands win an early corner, after Depay releases Dumfries deep down the right wing and the wing-back tries to drill a cross into the box, but it is well blocked by Kalas.
Both teams are just trying to control the ball and keep possession at the moment, the game has got off to a frantic start and it is end-to-end so far.
There is a packed crowd inside the stadium, with plenty of the Netherlands and the Czech Republic supporters making their voices heard in the opening few minutes of the game. It should be a lively one.

Frank De Boer has only made one change to his Netherlands side that beat North Macedonia 3-0 last time out, with Gravenberch replaced by De Roon in midfield.

Meanwhile the Czech Republic finished third in Group D with four points and progressed to the knockout stages as one of the best third-placed sides. They won their first game against Scotland, before drawing 1-1 with Croatia and losing their final game against England.
The Netherlands finished top of Group C, winning all three of their games against Ukraine, Austria and North Macedonia and they are one of the teams to watch in the tournament, having scored the most goals in the group stages, with eight.
