France's win leaves them second in Group F after Portugal's 3-0 win over Hungary earlier, while Germany sit in third. This is Germany's first ever defeat in their opening game at the Euros. Low's side aren't at risk of going out yet but they'll need to find their shooting boots to get through a difficult group.
France get off to a winning start in Group F by seeing off a toothless Germany. Hummels' own goal proved to be the difference as Germany worked hard but were unable to break down France's stubborn defence. France's win might have been more comfortable but for a few offside calls against the electric Mbappe.
FULL-TIME: FRANCE 1-0 GERMANY
Play is still going on. Griezmann's caught offside from Pogba's header and that's it!
Germany mount one last attack. Sane drops into a pocket of space, turns and feeds Volland who overcooks his ball in from the left.
France make a late substitution. Dembele replaces Rabiot for the game's final moments.
Werner's caught offside from Can's throughball. Sane's unable to keep Kroos' crossfield pass in play shortly after.
Kimmich weasels the ball into the box again and Varane is well-placed to punt it out.
There'll be six minutes of added time, largely due to Pavard's injury earlier. Germany don't particularly look like scoring.
Germany force their fifth corner of the half off Tolisso. Sadly for them their final ball is poor, as it has been all game. There's been just one shot on target since France took the lead, that being Rudiger's header.
Benzema will have to wait for his first Euro 2020 goal. Tolisso comes on to shore things up for France.
Germany have a free-kick from a handball by Rabiot. Sane goes straight for goal from outside the box but can't keep his effort down.
The Monaco forward Volland is the next player to come on for Germany. Gosens goes off.
Germany make a few more changes as they have just a few more minutes to salvage the game. Can replaces Ginter.
France think they've sealed the win through a lightning counter-attack! Mbappe races onto Pogba's throughball and squares the ball for Benzema who slots it into the net. VAR gets involved though and rules the goal out for offside against Mbappe.
Ginter receives the ball from Kimmich on the overlap and whips yet another cross into France's box. Again the French are able to deal with it.
Hernandez trips Kimmich down Germany's right. Gosens' touch lets him down and Griezmann nips in to get a free-kick on the opposite flank. This game has been quite attritional.
On second viewing Hummels slid in and just nicked the ball away from Mbappe. That was great, if high-risk, defending by the German.
Kroos' impatient pass forward is cut out by Kimpembe and France break. Mbappe shows his terrifying pace to edge in front of Hummels and goes down in the box. The referee waves play on.
Kimmich is continuing to sweep crosses into France's box but they haven't paid off yet. This latest one is too high and lands straight into the arms of Lloris.
Havertz also goes off. Sane takes his place.
Here come those Germany substitutions. Werner replaces Gnabry first.
Play stops as Ginter goes down off the ball for some minor treatment. That'll suit Germany fine as they're planning to make changes anyway.
Germany force a corner and Lloris punches Rudiger's header away. Hernandez hands Germany another corner which France do slightly better at defending.
Germany are continuing to push but France are holding firm for now. There's no better side in the world at grinding out a win than the French at the moment.
Mbappe shows fantastic feet to curl the ball into the far bottom corner but he's unfortunately offside from Pogba's pass in the buildup. It's a shame as it's an audacious finish.

France survive Kimmich's latest corner but they're finding themselves under increasing pressure. Gosens nearly squirms the ball across the box to his opposite counterpart Kimmich. Lloris is grateful to grab it instead.
Germany are gaining momentum. Varane stabs Kimmich's dangerous cross out for another Germany corner.
Germany earn a corner off Hernandez. Kimmich's delivery in isn't the best and Germany will have to settle for a throw-in.
It looks like Pavard was caught by Gosens' hip. The right-back is up and running again. He'll be fine.
Kimmich sends a looping cross from the byline towards Gosens at the back post. Gosens rises high for it and topples Pavard. Lloris makes a save but play's pulled back as Pavard is still down.
Germany come straight back with Gnabry drawing Lloris out of his goal. In the end the French goalkeeper stops Gnabry from getting a shot away.
This game has started to liven up. Benzema sends Mbappe scampering down the left but Mbappe's delivery lacks its usual conviction. Germany go straight back up the other end and Muller's shot is blocked.
Germany miss a decent chance of their own! Gosens, one of the beneficiaries of Germany's new 3-4-3 system, sends in another fantastic cross to find Gnabry at the far post. Gnabry hits it into the ground and it bounces back up and just over the crossbar.
Rabiot hits the post! The Juventus midfielder latches onto Mbappe's pass into the box and lashes a shot against the left-hand upright. It may have been the wrong decision as Griezmann was waiting for a tap-in.
Ginter floats a cross into France's box from deep and the French deal with it comfortably. Pogba earns a free-kick from Gundogan near the halfway line. He's been the game's best performer but there's plenty of time left yet.
Gnabry has been quiet for Germany so far, apart from his role in Gundogan's chance earlier. This half has started as scruffily as the first was.
Kimpembe adjusts his feet to stop Muller's pass. Mbappe beats Hummels to wriggle into the box but Hummels catches up to force the winger wide.
France get the second half going. Neither side has made changes at half-time.
France have only lost one of their previous 10 games when leading at half-time at the Euros. Meanwhile Germany have lost every single game in which they've been in this situation before. Germany need to sharpen up in the second half if they want to avoid a losing start to this tournament.
There's been plenty of energy in this game but not a huge amount of quality yet. France lead thanks to Hummels' unfortunate own goal, although Germany have had the lion's share of possession and chances. France will be happy to spend the second half trying to pick off Germany on the break.
HALF-TIME: FRANCE 1-0 GERMANY

France faff around near Germany's corner flag and Pogba ends up attracting the linesman's offside flag .Pogba waggles his finger at the linesman.
Varane shows great awareness again to cut out Muller's searching ball. Hernandez blocks off Kimmich's run inside and Kimmich slips and catches the full-back in the side of the face. France want a second yellow card for Kimmich but the incident is entirely accidental.
Germany clear the corner without much fuss. Again Gosens gets a cross in from the left. Gnabry hooks it back towards Gundogan whose first-time effort bounces wide of the post.
Mbappe escapes down the left but Ginter recovers well to give France a corner. Benzema was waiting for the cut back in the centre.
Varane shows great feet to stop Kroos from shooting and buys a foul from Havertz in the bargain.
Griezmann tries a flick around the corner from the right but it doesn't pay off. Kimpembe catches Kante flat-footed but Havertz is unable to capitalise.
Germany have recovered since conceding but still look a little vulnerable as Kimmich plays a square ball across his own half. Luckily for him France can't do anything with it.
Kimmich thinks he should have a corner as Kante bails Hernandez out of trouble. On second viewing the last touch was off Kante but the referee wasn't to know that.
Pogba catches Muller now in a similar position a little further from goal. This is a good spell for Germany. Kroos steps up for the free-kick again and this time fires over the crossbar.
Gundogan gets brought down by Kante in front of France's box. Kroos blasts the free-kick towards goal but France's wall does its job.
Germany almost equalise immediately as Muller nods wide from Gosens' high cross into the six-yard box. France's lead remains intact for now.
That's Germany's first ever own goal at the European Championships. Their defence has been suspect in recent years.
GOAL! FRANCE 1-0 GERMANY! France lead thanks to a German boot! Pogba picks out Hernandez in space down the left and the left-back fires the ball across goal. Hummels' defensive positioning is all wrong and all he can do is shin it into the net. That's a clear Hummels own goal.
Pogba looks to release Mbappe with a slide rule pass but even Mbappe isn't quick enough to reach it. Neuer ventures out of his goal to sweep up.
Chance for France! Mbappe cuts into the box from the left and takes aim for the bottom right corner with his right foot. Neuer makes a routine save to tip it out for a corner which Germany clear.
Pogba heads over from Griezmann's corner. Pogba should have at least got that effort on target.
Kante plays a one-two with Pavard but finds his initial pass blocked. Kante sends Pavard scampering down the right instead and the right-back's low cross deflects off Ginter for a corner.
Muller darts down the left-hand channel to reach Gosen's throughball but the Bayern Munich man is offside.
Mbappe gets caught out on the ball. Germany try to break but Havertz loses out too. Mbappe tries to beat Kroos in front of Germany's box but Kroos holds his ground and sends the Frenchman to the turf. It's strong defending by the Real Madrid midfielder.
France venture forward but Griezmann's loose touch ends the attack. The two teams are still scoping each other out at this stage.
Germany pop the ball around at the back without being put under much pressure by France. However, France's front three are ready to spring as soon as they do win possession.
Kimmich, playing slightly out of position at right wing-back, picks up a quick booking for tripping Hernandez.
Contrary to pre-match reports Griezmann has started on France's right flank as they're laid out in a 4-3-3 formation. Germany are in their new-look 3-4-3.
Kroos swings the free-kick into France's box and Hummels heads way over the crossbar.
Germany win a quick free-kick down their right as Muller's progress is halted by Kante. Kroos will get the chance to test France's resolve early on.

This is the sixth meeting between France and Germany at a major tournament, but the first in the group stages. Their head-to-head record is perfectly matched historically. However, France won the last tournament meeting between these two sides, a 2-0 victory in the Euro 2016 semi-finals thanks to a Griezmann brace. Will France's recent dominance show itself again here?

Kimpembe, Rabiot and the returnee Benzema are the three newcomers, while Giroud, who started that final, is on the bench. They'll want to give Joachim Low a winning send-off but they'll need to escape this year's group of death first.
We're here for a meeting of two European heavyweights in what must be the highest profile match of Euro 2020 so far. With Portugal getting off to a winning start against Hungary, 2018 World Cup winners France will be keen to do the same and begin exorcising the ghosts of their defeat in the Euro 2016 final.
