Commentary

Scotland come away with the moral victory, then, while England have some thinking to do before they face the Czech Republic on Tuesday. There's still plenty to play for on the final day in Group D. That's all for now. Goodbye!

The first ever 0-0 draw between this pair at Wembley leaves England second in Group D on four points. It's a frustrating result for the Three Lions rather than a frightening one. Kane had just 19 touches all game. Scotland stay bottom but now have a point. On the back of this result they'll believe they can beat Croatia in their last game to qualify for the last 16.

Scotland pick up a creditable draw against a subdued England side. Clarke's men proved very hard for England to break down and even came closest to winning the game. England brought on Grealish and Rashford but couldn't find an answer to Scotland's stubborn defence.

90'+2'

FULL-TIME: ENGLAND 0-0 SCOTLAND

90'

There'll be two more minutes of this. Sterling's low cross from the right causes havoc in Scotland's penalty area. McGinn boots clear before Mount can pull the trigger. A free-kick goes Scotland's way anyway.

88'

Whisper it, but Scotland have been the better side. They've made England's attacking talents look very sluggish.

87'

O'Donnell picks up a yellow card for tripping the foul magnet Grealish.

86'

Scotland make another attacking change. Nisbet replaces Adams up top.

85'

O'Donnell wins a foul down Scotland's right as he's brought down by Mings. Scotland have been solid all game.

83'

Sterling runs into McGinn and Armstrong bounds down the left before seeking support. Scotland play keep ball to boos from the crowd.

82'

Armstrong swings the corner in and Mings dismisses it with a powerful header.

81'

Rashford can't get the better of Hanley as a header on comes the England forward's way. Up the other end, Scotland win a corner down their left as McGinn's long-range effort is blocked by Rice.

79'

England fans want a penalty as Sterling goes down in the box after Robertson catches his foot. The referee isn't interested.

78'

Scotland come close to scoring again! Robertson bends a fantastic cross into the box. It lands to Adams at the far post who scuffs his volley and sends it high and wide! England breathe a sigh of relief.

76'

Armstrong takes the place of Gilmour who hasn't put a foot wrong in his first start for Scotland.

74'

Southgate makes an interesting substitution, bringing off England's captain Kane. Scotland have largely nullified Kane. Rashford takes his place up front.

73'

Mount and Grealish combine to release Shaw down the left. Shaw flashes the ball across the six-yard box but can't test Marshall.

71'

Sterling strays offside, bringing an end to England's latest attack. Scotland may be thinking of settling for a point now.

70'

Scotland are taking the sting out of the game by keeping possession for a bit. England, meanwhile, are keen to speed things up.

68'

Grealish tries to keep away from O'Donnell and find someone just outside the penalty area but there's no one in England white waiting for it. Grealish has already added to England's threat.

67'

England get a free-kick down their left as McTominay brings down Grealish. Shaw sends it over everyone in the box. The hosts keep possession from it and Mings can't control Phillips' teasing pass.

65'

Grealish makes his first contribution to the game by winning England a corner down their left. Mount's ball in isn't the best and Scotland clear it easily.

64'

Shaw hands Scotland another corner but this one is less eventful. This game is getting nervier by the minute.

63'

England make a substitution and it's a much-anticipated one. Grealish takes the place of Foden.

62'

Now Scotland earn a corner and almost score from it! Hanley gets on the end of Robertson's cross and has his header blocked. Dykes latches onto the rebound and lashes towards goal from the centre of the penalty area. James is in the right place to clear it off the line.

60'

McTominay hands England a corner which Scotland survive. England come again and Foden is dispossessed after receiving a pass from Sterling.

58'

England counter immediately and Gilmour brings down Kane. The hosts don't achieve much from Shaw's free-kick though as Foden nods down and Kane rattles an effort against Hanley.

56'

Mings misses a tackle and leaves England prone at the back. Dykes' shot is blocked and Adams holds the ball up on the penalty spot. The Scotland striker doesn't have the support he wants so he goes for goal himself. Stones gets in the way and England survive.

54'

England are starting to look a little frustrated. Kane drifts left and spots James on the edge of the box. James' shot whistles over the crossbar.

52'

Foden's dinked cross from the right is headed out by Tierney. England look short of ideas at the moment.

50'

Robertson scampers down the left as England get caught upfield and looks for Dykes who's entering the box. Mings and Stones do their job by cutting out the cross.

48'

Chance for England! Mount receives a pass from Shaw and goes for the bottom right corner from range. Marshall tips it out for another England corner. Again Scotland defend it well.

46'

England win a quick corner off Tierney which Mount takes short. Scotland see it out.

45'

The second half gets underway. No changes by either side at half-time.

Half

England will feel they can go up a gear after the break but it feels like Scotland have more in the tank too. There's been plenty of drive to the game so far either way, and an upset doesn't feel too outlandish a concept. The last time England lost a competitive match at Wembley when the game was 0-0 at half-time was in 1981... Against Scotland.

Half

This engaging contest between England and Scotland remains goalless, but surely not for long. Both teams have had good opportunities to break the deadlock as Stones hit the post from a corner and O'Donnell forced a decent save from Pickford. More to come!

45'

HALF-TIME: ENGLAND 0-0 SCOTLAND

44'

Scotland take the corner short. Mings eventually gets the ball under control to let England out. That's all for now.

43'

Scotland are building patiently just before half-time. The visitors string pass after pass together down their right before Adams slams a shot against Mings for a corner.

41'

Although England are working hard they haven't managed to trouble Scotland for a while. Phillips tries to nudge the ball through to Kane in the box but Tierney hooks it away.

39'

Pickford punches the corner away despite the crowd of players in front of him. Both Southgate and Clarke will be satisfied with how their teams have played so far.

38'

Tierney scoops a pass forward for Dykes to chase. Scotland's persistence pays off as McGregor knocks the ball off Phillips for a corner.

36'

Mount drifts down the right-hand channel to give Tierney something to think about. Tierney goes down near the corner flag and the linesman flags for a foul.

34'

Mount dinks a delicious ball over the top for Sterling who promptly miscontrols it. England's forward players are linking up well.

32'

Both sides have had their chances already but O'Donnell's was the first on target of this game. Foden arcs his run to stay onside but can't keep the ball from going out.

30'

Pickford makes a great save to keep O'Donnell out! Robertson finds his counterpart at the far post and O'Donnell fires towards the bottom left corner. Pickford dives to his right to push it aside. Adams nods wide on the follow-up.

29'

Kane dives to reach James' fantastic cross. The England captain heads wide but the offside flag goes up anyway. That would have been a fantastic goal had it gone in.

27'

Robertson powers down the left looking to have a run at James. James calmly lets the ball roll out of play.

25'

Scotland float another free-kick towards England's box to no avail after Rice clatters Dykes. Tierney ends the attack prematurely by scything down Foden unfairly.

24'

Scotland are playing a clear 3-4-1-2 with McGinn tasked with closing down England's holding midfielder Rice. England look comfortable at the moment but are finding it hard to get upfield quickly.

22'

Scotland's free-kick is cleared by England in the first instance. Tierney goes for goal from distance with his right foot and is predictably way off target.

21'

The fans are really making a racket here at Wembley. It's heartening stuff. Dykes cleverly draws Stones into an ill-judged aerial challenge and earns a free-kick.

20'

McGinn firmly heads away Mount's delivery. Scotland look to counter down the middle but Foden and Shaw crowd McGregor out.

19'

Shaw carries England forward and Mount tries to square the ball. It's blocked and goes out for an England corner.

18'

Phillips pings a long pass towards Foden who races in behind Scotland's defence. Foden kills the ball dead and fizzes an effort just wide of the left-hand post. He was a yard or two offside anyway.

15'

McGinn picks up an early yellow card for dissent as Mings holds off the challenge of Dykes. 75 minutes is a long time for the Aston Villa man to have to rein himself in.

14'

It's been a committed start by both teams. McGinn and Phillips tangle in midfield and Phillips gets the free-kick.

12'

Sterling robs McTominay to jink into the box from the left. The Manchester City winger rolls the ball into the six-yard box for the arriving Mount. Mount fires wide from close range.

11'

England hit the post! Mount swings the corner in and Stones leaps high to head it towards goal, rattling the woodwork. No one in Scotland colours was anywhere near him.

10'

England pop the ball around in front of Scotland's box until Foden dances his way in. Foden lays off to Mount who switches the ball to his right foot and cannons a shot off Hanley for a corner.

8'

Now Scotland will get a free-kick from their left as Phillips brings down McGinn. It's aimed towards the near post but Mings heads it away.

7'

Mount's delivery is met by Rice who doesn't fully connect with it. Scotland's goalkeeper Marshall claims it easily.

6'

McGinn bundles over Kane from behind down England's right. Mount is the England player most likely to take the free-kick.

4'

Adams gets the first shot on target of the game as O'Donnell cuts back from the right to find him in the box. Stones makes an excellent block to stop it testing Pickford.

2'

Phillips scampers after a pass down the right which Hanley wisely shepherds out of play. Scotland's back three looks more like a back five early on.

1'

It takes England to win the first foul of the game as Dykes elbows Shaw during an aerial challenge. This is going to be a feisty affair.

1'

England and Scotland's players take the knee to largely positive reception. Scotland get this game underway!

The players trot out onto the pitch at a very rainy Wembley where clothes are dampened but spirits certainly aren't. Both nations' fans boo each other's national anthems. This is going to be entertaining, isn't it?

This fixture almost guarantees fun. This is the 33rd time in history that England have hosted Scotland at Wembley. None of the previous 32 games have ended goalless. In fact, the four games played between this pair this century have produced 16 goals, an average of four a match. Hang on to your hats!

England boss Gareth Southgate makes two changes to his team from their win over Croatia as James and Shaw replace Trippier and Kyle Walker. It's their youngest-ever starting 11 at a major tournament. Steve Clarke makes four changes to Scotland. Tierney is fit enough to start, while the 20-year-old Gilmour makes his first start for his country. What a game to do it in.

England got their Euros campaign off to a winning start with a 1-0 win over Croatia last time out, while Scotland fell to an unlucky 2-0 defeat to the Czech Republic. England may be favourites to win and make it through to the last 16, but Scotland need a victory too and this is as close to a derby as international football gets. Anything could happen in the next 90 minutes.

The oldest international fixture in the world is here at Euro 2020! This will be the 115th time England and Scotland have faced either over the years, and their 100th competitive meeting. The only time they've met in a major tournament before was exactly 25 years ago in the group stage of Euro 1996. England won 2-0 that day. This game is likely to be just as fiercely contested.
