That is all from this Euro 2020 last-16 tie, until next time!

Belgium, who make it four wins in four at this tournament, next travel to Munich on Friday to do battle with Italy in what should be an enticing quarter-final clash. Portugal, who have failed to repeat their 2016 heroics, have to accept their European Championship is over and they next host the Republic of Ireland in the World Cup qualifiers in September.

A fairly quiet first-half affair was brought to life as Thorgan Hazard swerved a right-footed finish in to give Belgium a 1-0 lead. In the second half, Portugal threw all they could forward but no-one could beat Courtois. Felix, Dias and Guerreiro, who hit the right-hand post with a volley, all went close, however, none of them could stop Santos' defending champions from crashing out of Euro 2020 at the last-16 stage.

90'+6'

FULL-TIME: BELGIUM 1-0 PORTUGAL

90'+5'

Thorgan Hazard, whose goal looks like the winner at the moment, is brought off for Dendoncker.

95'

WIDE! Carrasco squanders the counter-attacking chance as Pereira intervenes on the edge of his own box. Down the other end, Andre Silva and Felix exchange a one-two before the latter substitute drags just wide of goal to the left with his right foot. The Atletico Madrid man falls to the floor as it looks like he appreciates that was Portugal's final chance.

90'+4'

Pepe has decided he is going to make the difference as he occupies a forward position now. Belgium, however, aren't put off by his presence as they continue to head away on the edge of their own area.

90'+3'

Danilo works inside for Fernandes and the Manchester United midfielder unleashes an ambitious long-range effort with his right foot. Courtois will want that sort of chance all day as he watches the strike curl well wide of goal to the left.

90'+2'

Fernandes dinks through for Andre Silva, who touches down but Alderweireld does well to poke away. Is there a late goal in it for either side?

90'+1'

There will be five minutes of added time in Seville as defending champions Portugal stare early elimination in the face.

89'

Lukaku dances around three defenders as he powers forward and offloads to Carrasco, who wastes the counter-attacking opportunity as he hesitates for too long. Belgium quickly drop back into position as they wait to defend another Portuguese attack.

88'

CLOSE! Ronaldo wins the first header inside the area, flicking Guerreiro's cross towards the far post. Andre Silva, who is being played onside by Alderweireld, is inches away from pouncing but Courtois smothers the ball and keeps his side's one-goal lead intact.

87'

Carrasco is the man to replace Eden Hazard, who limps off with a hamstring injury.

87'

Fernandes hurries Witsel and forces him into the right-hand corner without fouling. Eden Hazard seems set to come off as he looks to be struggling with a hamstring injury.

86'

Ronaldo sees his left-footed strike deflected behind but the resulting corner comes to nothing. Portugal bombard the box with more crosses from Fernandes but the Red Devils defend resolutely to head clear.

84'

Lukaku counter-attacks from Guerreiro's chance and wins a free-kick, courtesy of Oliveira's foul. The Belgian takes the free-kick from 20 yards out but he can only fire high and wide of the target.

83'

POST! Felix crosses in from the left-hand channel and, with Ronaldo challenging, Belgium can only clear to the edge of the area. Guerreiro arrives onto the loose ball, volleying with his right foot and striking the right-hand post. Courtois remains motionless but the woodwork saves him!

82'

CHANCE! Fernandes picks out Dalot, who cuts back inside before Thorgan Hazard tackles out for a corner. Fernandes swings in from the right-hand side, finding Dias, who powerfully heads towards the centre of goal. Courtois, however, reacts quickly to beat away a save high into the air.

81'

Alderweireld fouls Felix on the left-hand side before smashing the ball as far away as possible. For either the tackle or his petulance, the centre-back gets cautioned.

80'

Belgium drop off and Fernandes curls a cross in from deep. Andre Silva climbs the highest but he can only head comfortably over the crossbar from the left of goal.

79'

Ronaldo feels he is dragged down in the area by Alderweireld but Brych disagrees before Fernandes hurls a few choice words at the assistant referee for letting Lukaku back onto the pitch so quickly. Things are heating up in Seville as this game approaches the closing stages.

78'

Oliveira also comes on at the same time as Sanches wanders off the pitch.

78'

Palhinha, whose first-half foul meant De Bruyne had to be brought off, makes way for Danilo.

77'

Lukaku is down on the far side and Tielemans indicates his team-mate has a head injury. Despite the referee’s whistle, Thorgan Hazard plays on and Pepe wipes him out. The Belgian players rush in to confront the centre-back and it looks like Brych will be required once more.

77'

For his late tackle on Thorgan Hazard, which was both off the ball and after the whistle, means he becomes the next name in referee Brych's growing list of cautions.

76'

Felix goes down inside the area before Guerreiro offloads to Ronaldo, who can only find the hands of Courtois as he looks to cross from the left of goal. Portugal are rapidly running out of time to stay in this competition.

74'

After Vermaelen fouls Felix, Ronaldo once again hovers over a free-kick, this time in a more central position than his first-half chance. The Portugal captain strikes with his right foot but smashes into the wall.

72'

Vermaelen needlessly crashes through the back of Felix, offering the Portuguese a central free-kick 25 yards from goal. The centre-back also goes into Brych’s book.

72'

Belgium have reached the knockout stages in each of their last five appearances at a major tournament (Euros and World Cup), progressing to the semi-final in their previous one at the 2018 World Cup. Their defeat to eventual winners France in 2018 is the only one of their last 10 games at major tournaments that they have failed to win (W9).

71'

Due to Silva's introduction, Ronaldo has moved over to the left-hand side. Portugal need a goal and they are running out of attackers to throw onto the pitch.

70'

Santos makes another change as he sends on Silva, this time Andre not Bernardo, for Jota.

69'

Fernandes leaves Eden Hazard down with a late tackle and the Real Madrid man stays on the floor. Santos' side refuse to put the ball out of play and there is a bit of confrontation, largely led by Pepe and Lukaku, meaning referee Brych has to get involved.

68'

Guerreiro finds Jota, who offloads to Sanches. The Portuguese midfielder strikes from distance but he can only drag his right-footed effort well wide of goal to the left.

67'

Thorgan Hazard does his defensive duties as he intervenes in front of Dalot. Belgium are just over 20 minutes away from the quarter-final stages and, more importantly, the elimination of the defending champions.

65'

Felix and Fernandes' introduction has offered Portugal more options, as both drifts into different spaces and drag around the Belgian defence. The pair, however, are yet to beat Courtois and the Red Devils continue leading 1-0 in Seville.

63'

CLOSE! Thorgan Hazard profits from a smart pass from his brother, Eden, as he drives down the left flank to make it onto a throughball. The left wing-back works inside for Lukaku, whose touch sets up a left-footed volley, which he smashes just wide of goal to the right. Patricio looked fairly confident there as he watched it sail wide.

61'

SAVE! A host of Portugal players queue up inside the box as Sanches curls in a right-footed cross from the left flank. Felix wins it at the back post but he finds the hands of Courtois, who dives down to his left to comfortably save.

60'

Lukaku looks to be in an offside position as he touches on for Mertens. The substitute can't get there but it doesn't matter as the flag eventually goes up for offside against the Inter forward.

59'

OVER! Ronaldo drives Portugal forward with a powerful run before offloading to Jota. The Liverpool forward controls the strong pass well, twisting to shoot with his right foot but he can only fire over the crossbar. Jota did well to spin Vertonghen there and he will be frustrated to have not tested Courtois.

58'

Thorgan Hazard, who opened the scoring, has more Euros goals in three appearances (2) than his brother Eden Hazard has in nine games (1). In fact, the left wing-back has been involved in six goals in his last seven starts for Belgium (4 goals, 2 assists). His goal proves the difference so far here.

57'

At the same time as Felix’s introduction, Fernandes also comes on for Silva.

55'

Santos rolls the dice as he makes an attacking double change, the first of which sees Felix replace Moutinho.

54'

Jota nods down for Ronaldo, who sets himself before volleying with his right foot from 25 yards. Alderweireld bravely stands in the way to block with his back before Courtois is required.

53'

Dalot delivers towards the far post but Ronaldo's late arrival doesn't matter as Vertonghen heads away. Down the other end, Silva races back to intervene in front of Mertens as he does well to cover Dalot, who was out of position.

52'

Pepe and Lukaku contest another battle but the veteran centre-back uses all of his experience to play backwards to Patricio. As it stands, the 38-year-old defender has perhaps won the duel with the Belgian forward, despite Martinez's men leading.

51'

Dalot becomes the second name in referee Brych’s book as he fouls Hazard and kicks the ball away in frustration.

50'

Patricio is quickly off his line to hook a clearance into the right-hand channel before Lukaku can capitalise on a long pass. Dalot then fouls Hazard near the halfway line and it looks like referee Brych is going to show another card.

49'

Tielemans hacks at Sanches' ankles to stop the Portuguese attack. Somehow the midfielder avoids a booking before Thorgan Hazard fails to find Mertens at the other end.

48'

De Bruyne, who had been struggling after Palhinha’s first-half foul, makes way and Mertens takes his place. A huge blow for the Belgians at the start of the second half.

48'

De Bruyne is hobbling around near the halfway line and he looks to be struggling once more as he continues to suffer from Palhinha's first-half tackle. It looks like Martinez is going to have to bring off the Manchester City midfielder.

47'

Portugal have never won a Euros match when trailing at half-time (D2 L4), although one of those matches was a 2-2 draw with England at Euro 2004 that went to penalties, with the Portuguese progressing.

46'

Referee Brych gets the second half underway!

Half

Up until Thorgan Hazard's opener, Santos would have been the happier of the two coaches. At half-time, however, defending champions Portugal are now 45 minutes away from elimination and they may need to make changes, perhaps introducing Fernandes or Felix. Martinez, contrastingly, will be encouraging his side and imploring them to be more clinical when opportunities arise to attack.

Half

A cagey and tentative affair ensured a far from classic first-half of football in Seville. Jota pulled wide before Ronaldo was denied by Courtois but it was Thorgan Hazard who gave Belgium the lead. His right-footed strike, which swerved and caught Patricio by surprise, remains the difference at half-time as the Red Devils wander down the tunnel leading Portugal 1-0.

45'+3'

HALF-TIME: BELGIUM 1-0 PORTUGAL

47'

After a minute or so of medical attention, De Bruyne returns to his feet and indeed to the pitch. Martinez is still not happy on the near side and is offering his opinion to the assistant in front of him.

46'

Having been tripped by Palhinha before referee Brych's advantage, De Bruyne stays down and requires treatment from Belgium's medical team. The Manchester City midfielder seems to be indicating a problem with his ankle and, with the playing surface not the best in Seville, Martinez appears concerned on the touchline.

45'

De Bruyne gets tripped in the build-up play before Meunier’s poor cross. Referee Brych plays advantage before pulling it back and cautioning Palhinha for his cynical efforts.

44'

Santos may have been satisfied with his team's first-half performance but his message at half-time will now change. Martinez, in contrast, will be delighted to see his men ahead despite not putting in their best performance of the tournament so far.

42'

After De Bruyne sees his pass blocked for the overlapping run of Meunier, Belgium's right-wing back recovers the ball and knocks towards the left-hand side. Thorgan Hazard sees his opportunity, touching inside before cutting across a right-footed effort to find the bottom right corner.

Goal!
42'

GOOOOOOALLLL! 1-0 BELGIUM! Lukaku gets to grips with Dias and offloads to De Bruyne, who sees his right-footed flick blocked. Belgium recycle possession, however, moving it out to the left flank through Meunier. Thorgan Hazard takes a touch inside, slicing across a right-footed strike to swerve a finish into the bottom right corner. Patricio, who in hindsight may feel he should do better with the shot, scrambles across but he can get nowhere near and Martinez’s men take the lead!

41'

Silva wanders over to deliver the set-piece, going short before Guerreiro doesn't catch a low left-footed effort well and Belgium block. Dias then fouls Vermaelen in the air and Portugal's chance to attack fades away.

40'

Sanches and Palhinha have been excellent so far. The former beats two Belgians before arrowing out to Silva, who wins a corner for his team on the right.

39'

Dalot escapes the attentions of his opposite man on the right-hand side, however, the right-back is adjudged to be offside as he pulls a right-footed attempt out for a throw-in on the left flank.

37'

CLOSE! Meunier drifts inside from the right flank after exchanging a one-two with De Bruyne and sets his sights on the top left corner. The right wing-back's strike with the outside of his right boot curls but not enough as it sails just wide of Patricio's goal to the left.

36'

Ronaldo smartly redirects a sharp Sanches pass to his right before Vertonghen commits a foul on Moutinho in the right-hand channel. The Wolves midfielder and Silva hover over the set-piece on the right flank.

34'

Tielemans fouls Ronaldo with a smothering tackle in the middle. Referee Brych again sounds his whistle as this game quickly deteriorates into a series of needless fouls and stoppages in play.

32'

Vermaelen's crunching tackle on Ronaldo sets Thorgan Hazard away on the counter-attack. The left wing-back looks for Lukaku, however, his pass lacks quality and Portugal intervene.

30'

Palhinha smashes into a sliding tackle on Lukaku, however, referee Brych points at the ball as he waves the Belgian forward to his feet. Ronaldo then chases into the channel but Vermaelen, with around a five-yard start, recovers to play backwards.

28'

Ronaldo induced the first save of the game from Courtois but he has never scored with a direct free-kick effort at the European Championships (27 shots). In fact, his 27 direct free-kick attempts at the Euros are six more than any country's players have had since Euro 2004 (Italian players have had 21).

28'

Alderweireld has to be quick on the scene to head away as Ronaldo closes in. Lukaku then fails to hold-up possession up top and Portugal set about moving the ball around their defence again. Martinez's men need to make the ball stick when they do get the chance to go forward.

26'

Dias finds Silva on the diagonal and the Manchester City man heads backwards to Dalot. The Red Devils look slightly under pressure at the minute as Sanches, Moutinho and Palhinha begin to dominate the middle of the park.

25'

SAVE! After Vermaelen's handball, Ronaldo lines up the free-kick from inside the right-hand channel 20 yards from goal. The Portugal captain wanders up to the set-piece, drilling a right-footed strike towards the bottom left corner, where Courtois parries away. Palhinha produces a weak header on the follow-up and the Belgian goalkeeper saves once more.

24'

Sanches is once again encouraged to shoot from range but he sensibly opts to pass sidewards. Vermaelen then handles the ball as he looks to stop Jota and Portugal, who are slowly asserting their authority, get a free-kick 20 yards from goal just to the right-hand side.

23'

Sanches lets fly from distance but his optimistic right-footed shot arrows well wide of goal to the right. Courtois remains unmoved before wandering over to collect the ball for a goal-kick.

22'

Meunier roams down the right flank but his hopeful delivery gets headed away. Sanches and De Bruyne then clash in the middle and the Portuguese midfielder gets the decision.

21'

Since (and including) the 2014 World Cup, De Bruyne has created 71 chances in major tournaments (Euros and World Cup), more than any other European player in that time. He has been relatively quiet so far.

20'

Thorgan Hazard drifts inwards before seeing his right-footed effort blocked comfortably by a wall of Portugal defenders. Germany had real success down the flanks against Santos' men and perhaps that's where Martinez sees his opportunity tonight.

19'

Palhinha gets penalised for a foul on Witsel, despite the Portuguese midfielder initially looking like he had been bundled over. As expected, it has been a fairly tentative start to the game in Seville.

17'

Ronaldo comes deep to control possession before Moutinho ghosts into space centrally. He collides with Witsel and both end up in the floor but referee Brych waves play on.

15'

Jota sneaks away from Meunier in the left-hand channel but the flag is up against the Liverpool forward for offside. Will Jota live to regret missing the earlier opportunity which he dragged wide?

14'

Silva dispossesses Thorgan Hazard before slipping inside for Ronaldo, who takes his time and brings some calm to proceedings. Portugal then enjoy a rare spell on the ball inside the opening 15 minutes, offering them a well-deserved breather and the chance to carve an opening.

12'

Nearly every Portuguese pass is being greeted by boos by the crowd in Seville. That won't affect Santos' men but they are struggling to retain possession at the moment as the Belgian press repeatedly forces them long.

11'

Meunier attempts another cross from the right flank and Eden Hazard recycles possession with a smart flick before the Real Madrid man harmlessly fires over the crossbar on the return pass.

10'

Belgium’s victory over Finland last time out marked their ninth win at the World Cup & Euros combined under Martinez, with the Spaniard now holding the outright managerial record for major tournament wins with the Red Devils.

9'

Meunier has tons of time on the right-hand side but he overhits his cross as he looks for Lukaku at the back post. The Inter forward had managed to work away from Pepe but the right wing-back's cross in failed to find him.

7'

Eden Hazard knocks a pass forward to Lukaku, who immediately looks to return the favour to the right-hand side of the area. The Belgian forward, however, underhits his pass and Dias averts the danger.

6'

WIDE! Sanches intervenes in midfield, spinning and powering over the halfway line before offloading to the left of goal. Jota finds space, taking a touch before dragging a left-footed attempt wide of goal under pressure from Alderweireld. The first chance of the game for Portugal goes amiss.

4'

Silva intercepts high up inside the right-hand channel as Portugal get their first real touch of the ball. Santos' men don't appear too intent on seeing that much of possession as they seem more interested in profiting on the counter-attack.

2'

Thorgan and Eden Hazard are operating on the same flank for Martinez's side. The pair link-up before finding De Bruyne, who opts to go sideways and retain possession as Belgium dictate the early proceedings.

1'

With the national anthems out the way, referee Felix Brych gets this game underway!

This will be the first ever major tournament meeting (World Cup/Euros) between Belgium and Portugal; Santos' side are unbeaten in their last five matches against the Red Devils across all competitions (W3 D2) since a 3-0 defeat in World Cup qualifying way back in September 1989.

Santos opts for two changes from the draw against France. Semedo drops to the bench, meaning Dalot makes his first start of the tournament at right-back. The other alteration sees Palhinha, who impressed against Les Bleus, replace Danilo in the middle of the park to partner Moutinho and Sanches. Importantly, Portugal once again leave Fernandes on the bench as the midfielder has failed to recreate his club form on the international stage.

After resting numerous stars against Finland, Roberto Martinez makes five changes to his last starting line-up. The experience of Alderweireld and Vertonghen join Vermaelen in a three-man defence as the pair replace Boyata and Denayer. On either flank, Meunier and Thorgan Hazard come in for Nacer Chadli and Trossard. Further forward, Doku misses out for Tielemans, meaning De Bruyne will push into a more advanced role for the Belgians.

SUBS: Rui Silva, Andre Silva, Ruben Neves, Danilo Pereira, Jose Fonte, Nuno Mendes, Pote, Nelson Semedo, Bruno Fernandes, Joao Felix, Sergio Oliveira, Anthony Lopes.

PORTUGAL (4-3-3): Rui Patricio; Diogo Dalot, Pepe, Ruben Dias, Raphael Guerreiro; Renato Sanches, Joao Palhinha, Joao Moutinho; Diogo Jota, Cristiano Ronaldo, Bernardo Silva.

SUBS: Michy Batshuayi, Leander Dendoncker, Yannick Carrasco, Jeremy Doku, Christian Benetze, Dennis Praet, Jason Denayer, Matz Sels, Dries Mertens, Leandro Trossard, Simon Mignolet, Dedryck Boyata.

BELGIUM (3-4-2-1): Thibaut Courtois; Thomas Vermaelen, Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld; Thorgan Hazard, Axel Witsel, Youri Tielemans, Thomas Meunier; Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne; Romelu Lukaku.

After a chaotic final matchday, Portugal ultimately secured a third-place finish in Group F, courtesy of a 2-2 draw with France. Fernando Santos’ team started well by putting three past Hungary but, with the aforementioned draw against Les Bleus and a 4-0 thrashing by Germany, Portugal’s form has spiralled downwards slightly. They do, however, have European Championship history, having triumphed most recently in 2016, while making it to the semi-finals in both 2000 and 2012 alongside a runners-up spot at Euro 2004.

Belgium coasted to this stage of the tournament, dispatching of Russia, Denmark and Finland to top Group B. The world’s number-one ranked team finished third at the 2016 World Cup, however, they haven’t advanced past the European Championship quarter-finals since finishing as runners-up in 1980. Despite topping their group, Belgium face the tricky proposition of Portugal in Seville today.
