Russia invades Ukraine

By Friday, Russian forces had captured the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and Snake Island, a speck of land south of the port of Odessa. Residents in Kyiv were told to make Molotov cocktails in preparation of a Russian assault on the Ukrainian capital.
